A Week With Simon Borg

A WEEK WITH SIMON BORG-OLIVIER

Learn, Practice, Connect & Expand

March 27th – 1st April 2019

40-Hour Intensive Training with Simon Borg-Olivier MScBAppSc(Physiotherapy) APAM c-IAYT

“Posture, Movement and Breathing for Physical Fitness, Internal Energy, Mental Wellbeing and Longevity:

Interactive Learning, Visually – Instructed Meditative Practice, Expand your Consciousness and Connect with the Source Field”

YOGA ALLIANCE CONTINUOUS EDUCATION -YACEP – CREDITS WILL BE GIVEN.

What comes to mind immediately about Simon is his ability to practice and teach wavelike fluid movements of the trunk and limbs, initiated from the core of your body, that feel like you are giving yourself a blissful therapeutic massage in a warm bath, that is making you stronger, more flexible and fitter, at the same time as being virtually effortless.

Simon is a master of explaining how physical practices such as classical yoga, martial arts, dance and most sports, yield superior results when activated from the core with a systematic progression of individual then combined spinal movements. Each practice becomes more fluid and relaxed, yet quickly develops a warmth, that reflects blood-flow, while maintaining a low heart heart and calm nervous system. Perhaps surprisingly, functional strength, flexibility, balance and keen skill sets are nevertheless still acquired during this type of practice.

Besides teaching yoga and body movement Simon has multiple skills. Storytelling is one of them. At times Simon’s workshops turn into a fascinating experience of bringing back to life past masters and their legacy with anecdotes rooted in his multiple practices with Sri BKS Iyengar, Sri K Patthabi Jois, and Sri TKV Desikachar, to name a few. Introducing Simon cant be summarised. Those who know him trust the practice will be fun. Those who first him remain amazed at his tremendous energy, humble listening skills, and his ability to assist everyone to practice yoga as it inhabits himself. Simon teaches from the core of his wealthy radiating knowledge, his heart and of course his experience and is dearly missed when completes his workshops. Actually, with Simon your practice transforms, movement becomes spacious and breathing totally adapted.

The workshop series is open to all levels of practitioner, but each session builds on the previous sessions. If you can only some sessions then it is recommended to do the earlier sessions. Do not enrol in the last session of the series unless you have attended at least two previous sessions.

All sessions include some practical theory plus a fluid and meditative visually-instructed led-practice with music.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

How to move actively and fluidly from the core. You will be shown special types of core stabilisation to nourish joints and muscles, prevent and heal injuries, and relieve physical pain;

• Improve flexibility without intense stretching;

• Improve strength without excess tension or stress;

• How to breathe and experience relaxation in your practice;

• How to improve energy levels without over-breathing (hyperventilating);

• How to promote circulation without increasing heart rate;

• How to improve the intelligence of the cells without over-thinking;

• How to satiate appetite, and nourish your cells without over-eating;

• How to experience rest and rejuvenation without over-sleeping.

🧘♂ Simon Borg-Olivier is a research scientist and physiotherapist who has taught posture, movement and breathing for 35 years. Using a safe, accessible and effective way of practice Simon will allow you to develop fitness and internal health by using spinal movements and graded diaphragmatic breathing into an abdomen firmed through posture.

Session 3: Chakra Meditation

Yoga is essentially based on the seven-chakra system that lies along the spine, from the base to the crown of the head, and each of these chakra points is responsible for the organs and gland’s healthiness in its region. The chakras are not only responsible for the organs and glands, but this extends and contributes to our personality traits and characteristics. Of these seven chakras, one of the most important and fascinating is the Ajna Chakra or Third Eye.

DESERT YOGA ITINERARY

6:30AM

Sunrise Yoga Flow, Pranayama & Dhyana

Traditionally, Yoga was practised at or just before sunrise, as a way to greet the sun and to welcome a new day.By being aware of the rhythms of the world and practising yoga as the sun rises, we tap into our own natural rhythms.Many of us are so caught up in the world of technology and work that we forget we too are a part of nature; and this morning routine is a reminder of our natural state of being.

6:30AM

7:45AM

Mindful walk in the Desert

Walking is a movement we do every day, and like breathing, is usually something we do without much thought.
Integrating mindfulness into movement has the added benefit of combining mental exercise with physical exercise. Studies abound showing that light walking for 20 minutes can help mild depression, anxiety, and attention, not to mention our physical wellness. And during COVID lockdowns, getting outside and taking care of our mental health is even more important.
