Surya Ignite

Surya — the sun • igniting the day
Intensity : Strong
Duration : 60 min
Level : Intermediate
Best for : Kapha
Meet the sun and ignite the day — a sunrise Surya Namaskar intensive, building toward the classical 108 rounds, timed exactly as Ayurveda prescribes for Kapha.

The sun salutation as Kapha medicine

Ayurveda is precise about time. The Kapha hours — roughly 6 to 10 in the morning — are when heaviness settles most deeply, and when movement is most needed to counter it. The classical prescription is to rise and move before that heaviness takes hold. Surya Ignite is built around exactly this wisdom.
A sunrise intensive of Surya Namaskar — the sun salutation — it builds progressively toward the traditional 108 rounds. There is no more complete Kapha wake-up: heat, rhythm, momentum and discipline, all in the practice best suited to burning away morning heaviness.
What happens in the class
The class builds through progressive rounds of Surya Namaskar, rising in number as the body warms, driven by Kapalabhati and the energising rhythm of the practice. Advanced students may work toward the full 108; everyone works to their own count within the collective momentum. The heat generated is significant, the effect transformative — closing with a short rest and a system fully awake. The student who cannot get moving in the morning leaves this class changed.

Frequently Asked Questions

No — 108 is the classical goal that advanced students work toward. Everyone works to their own count within the shared momentum. You build gradually.
Ayurveda identifies roughly 6–10am as the Kapha hours, when heaviness is greatest. Moving strongly in that window is the precise prescription for Kapha.
It's intermediate — newer students are very welcome but should build their round count up gently and can take breaks as needed.
