Hatha Prakriti

Hatha — the yoga of balance • Prakriti — your original nature
Intensity : Gentle
Duration : 60 min
Level : All levels
Best for : Vata
The foundation of a settled practice — slow, deliberate Hatha yoga that returns the restless Vata body and mind to steady ground.

A practice to steady Vata

In Ayurveda, Vata is air and space — the energy of movement, creativity and quickness. In balance it is light and inspired. Out of balance it becomes anxious, scattered, dry and depleted, with a mind that will not slow down and sleep that will not come.
Hatha Prakriti is the classical answer. Where fast, stimulating practice aggravates an already-restless Vata, slow and grounded Hatha does the opposite: it steadies the nervous system, anchors the attention, and reminds the body how to be still. Prakriti means your original nature — and this class is about returning to it.
What happens in the class
The practice moves slowly and deliberately through foundational standing and seated postures, each held long enough to build steadiness rather than heat. Careful alignment is emphasised throughout — not as performance, but as a way of grounding a body that tends to float. We work with the breath kept smooth and even, and close with a longer relaxation, because the Vata system restores itself through rest more than through effort.

Benefits

  • Calms an overactive, anxious mind
  • Grounds scattered energy and improves focus
  • Relieves the dryness and tension Vata carries in the joints
  • Builds steadiness, balance and postural strength
  • Prepares the body for deeper, more restful sleep
